Under fire for its decision to stop the darshan of Lord Venkateswara for six days beginning August 11 to facilitate performance of the ‘Astabandhana Maha Samprokshanam' ritual at the hill temple, the management of the Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams (TTD) on Tuesday resolved to permit a limited number of devotees during the period.

Announcing the decision here, Executive Officer Anil Kumar Singhal said up to 31 hours would be set aside for the devotees to have darshan.

According to rough calculations, the management will have nine hours at its disposal on August 11and about 4-5 hours each on the other five days.

“We are ready to provide darshan to the pilgrims to the best extent possible. At the same time, the pilgrims also should appreciate the difficulties of the management and cooperate with it,” he appealed.

He said it would be possible to provide darshan to a maximum of 15,000 devotees per day. The earlier decision was taken with the intention of avoiding hardship to the devotees, he said.

Urging devotees not to give credence to ‘wild rumours’ making the rounds on social media, Mr. Singhal said the management had decided to invite suggestions from the devotees till July 23. The TTD board would meet the following day and take a final decision, he said.

Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu also instructed the management to review its decision, keeping in mind the sentiments of the devotees.
