TS firm to produce injectible polio vaccine

May 20, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 06:13 am IST - HYDERABAD:

World Health Organisation (WHO) is all set to recognise city-based Indian Immunologicals (IIL) as the centre to transfer technology to develop Inactivated Polio Vaccine (IPV). The animal and human vaccine manufacturer from Hyderabad has emerged a frontrunner and in all probability will start producing IPV, which eventually will become part of the regular child immunisation programme, shortly. A WHO team has already visited IIL’s vaccine manufacturing facility at Gachibowli and authorities have confirmed that very soon an ‘official’ understanding would be reached to manufacture IPV in Hyderabad. The WHO team after the visit has evinced keen interest to co-operate with IIL and transfer the technology to manufacture IPV by a public sector undertaking.
