The Penukonda police on Friday seized a truck load of logs under the suspicion that they were red sanders, only to find out that the logs were actually sandra wood. Speaking to The Hindu , Penukonda DSP N. Subba Rao said that the police, acting on a tip-off, halted a truck close to the Haripuram village, just a few km away from the Penukonda town. “Close to 180 logs of wood were covered by raw banana fruit and being transported to an unknown destination by miscreants, who fled leaving the vehicle, when the police stopped the truck,” said Mr. Subba Rao. Sundra wood is endemic species to the Indian subcontinent.
