Troika behind the raids: Naidu

Chief Minister and Telugu Desam Party (TDP) national president N. Chandrababu Naidu sees a conspiracy behind the income-tax and Enforcement Directorate raids on the houses of party leaders.

During a teleconference with party leaders on Thursday, Mr. Naidu said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Telangana CM K. Chandrasekhar Rao and YSRCP chief Jagan Mohan Reddy were behind the raids.

Mr. Modi was using the Central agencies to harass the party leaders and Mr. KCR was digging old cases slapped against TDP leaders, he alleged.

It was unfortunate that BC leaders and candidates of the party such as Beeda Mastan Rao and Putta Sudhakar Yadav were being targeted. The Prime Minister doesn’t want the BCs to grow politically.

Mr. Modi fears that he would be defeated and hence he was resorting to such “heinous attacks.”

“Why there were no raids on the YSRCP leaders? Why there were no raids on TRS contractors? Why there were no raids on leaders belonging to the federal front? he asked.

The YSRCP was claiming that it would buy and manage TDP agents, he said and asked the party cadre to be vigilant. The cadres should take inspiration from the save democracy movement launched in 1984 when NTR was undemocratically removed and fight such forces conspiring against the party. Every worker should take this election as a challenge, teach a lesson to the “Jagan-Modi-KCR combine” and see that the party retained power, he said.

Plea to NRIs

Meanwhile, NRI Komati Jayaram, in a letter, appealed to the NRIs to support the TDP. There was a need for effective leadership for “Navyandhra” which was yet to recover from the after-effects of bifurcation.

“If people like Mr. Jagan who face criminal charges come to power there will be no security for our properties and investments. There is no guarantee that the funds we send for development of our villages will reach the ground level if such people assume power.”

TDP complains to CEO

A delegation of Telugu Desam Party (TDP) led by its legal cell president and Rajya Sabha member Kanakamedala Ravindra Kumar lodged a complaint with Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) Gopal Krishna Dwivedi against the alleged targeting of TDP leaders by the Income Tax (IT) Department.

Mr. Kumar told the CEO that the I-T officials conducted raids on three TDP candidates contesting in the Lok Sabha and Assembly elections after they had filed nominations and rhat it was tantamount to violation of the Model Code of Conduct. The CEO reportedly said he would look into the matter.
