Dengue was not expensive to treat and those suffering from it must immediately consult a doctor, said district medical and health officer J.V.V.R.K. Prasad.

Speaking to reporters a day before the National Dengue Day on 16 May, Mr. Prasad said that even during normal fever, platelet count could come down. “We have about 1 lakh to 3 lakh platelets in our bodies. If the count comes down to less than a lakh, it’s a reason to worry. However, there have been cases wherein the count has come down to 10,000, yet the patient survived,” he said.

The symptoms of dengue were high fever, severe headache, joint pains, eye strain, fatigue and nausea, he said, advising people to prevent breeding of mosquitoes in their vicinity.
