Transgenders to build a temple for Naidu

In a token of gratitude, transgenders have decided to build a temple for Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu with a silver statue weighing five kg at Transgenders Colony in Nandyal of Kurnool district.

Mr. Naidu, who responded to the plight of transgenders who called on him during his election tour of Nandyal, and announced the establishment of a welfare board for transgenders besides promising a monthly pension of ₹1,000, ration cards, pucca houses, identity cards and self-employment loans, would be revered by people of the third gender, Pedisela Vijay Kumar, president of Indian National Samatha Hijdas’ Rights Ikya Porata Samithi, has said.

No government since Independence had paid attention to their welfare, he added.

Transgenders at a meeting at Nandyal unanimously resolved to build the temple at an estimated to cost ₹10 lakh on five cents of land, Mr. Vijay Kumar said. Asserting that funds would be mobilised for the temple, he said he was prepared to sell an acre of land owned by him in Peddakottalapalle village in Nandyal mandal if more funds were needed.

He recalled that transgenders undertook a padayatra from Nandyal to Hyderabad to represent their plight to the then Chief Minister N. Kiran Kumar Reddy, but to no avail.

Pawan, TGV thanked

The association’s State president Hasini and State vice-president Madhuri would call on Mr. Naidu in Vijayawada and express gratitude to him in person. Mr. Vijay Kumar hoped that the Right of Transgenders (Protection) Act would come into force soon.

Thanking Jana Sena president and actor Pawan Kalyan for promising to give Assembly tickets to transgenders in the next election, he recalled that the Jana Sena membership form had a transgender column.

He also thanked Rajya Sabha member T.G. Venkatesh and other MPs who supported their cause.
