Two devotees from Andhra Pradesh drowned in the Godavari in Bhadrachalam on Sunday.

The police identified the deceased as V. Vaddelu, 30, and M. Gopi, 18, of Reddygudem village in Krishna district of Andhra Pradesh.

The duo were part of a group of 40 devotees, who were on a pilgrimage to Bhadrachalam.

Sources said that Gopi reportedly got caught in the undercurrent after he lost balance while taking a bath in the river. Gopi’s close relative, Vaddeulu, tried to save him, but in vain. Both of them drowned in the river, sources added. Their bodies were retrieved by the police a few hours later.
