Torture of women: SHRC takes up suo motu case

The State Human Rights Commission (SHRC) has taken suo motu cognizance of a barbaric incident in Krishna district where three women were dragged out of their houses and beaten up for not complying with the directions of local Mahila Mandali.

The incident at Katrenipadu village, according to media reports, occurred when the three women did not appear before the Panchayat for settlement of their disputes with other residents in the village.

Cases disposed of

The Commission, in its recent drive against pending cases from 2005 to 2010, had disposed of 2,732 cases till Friday, according to a release.

It warned the government officials for their casual approach in providing information and their failure to assist the Commission with regard to the complaints received by it.
