Four members of a red sanders smuggling gang, allegedly from Tamil Nadu, attacked a person belonging to Puttur in Chittoor district, with a knife at Nayudupeta, here on Sunday midnight. The gang abducted Bala Subrahmanyam and brought him in a car to Nayaudupeta. Subrahmanyam was attacked as the gang was upset with him over some red sanders logs going missing from a hidden dump and also for not parting with the spoils.

Subrahmanyam managed to escape and ran into Vinnamala village. On hearing the commotion, local residents alerted the police. They arrested Subrahmanyam and handed him over to the Puttur police, Nayudupeta SI I. Anjaneya Reddy said. He said Subrahmanyam was earlier involved in red sanders smuggling cases.
