Tirupati East police bags best crime detection award for solving crown theft case 

Tadikalapudi police gets second prize for solving rape and murder of girl

The Tirupati East and Tadikalapudi police of West Godavari district and Dharmavaram Government Railway Police (GRP) bagged the first, second and third prizes in Award for Best Crime Detection (ABCD).

Director General of Police (DGP) R.P. Thakur presented the awards for the first quarter in 2019, at AP Police Headquarters at Mangalagiri, on Wednesday.

Tirupati Urban DSP Ravishankar Reddy and his team, who received the first prize, said the police detected the sensational crowns theft case occurred in Govindaraja Swamy temple in Tirupati on February 2, this year.

Mr. Reddy explained that some thousands of CCTV footages were examined at the railway stations and other places in A.P. and Telangana, and the police teams visited eight States during investigation.

They found that the accused, Akash, native of Nanded in Maharashtra, along with his associate committed the theft and recovered the golden crowns of Malayappa Swamy, Goddess Sridevi Ammavaru and Sri Bhudevi Ammavaru, all weighing about 1,351 grams, which were melted into gold biscuits.

West Godavari Additional Superintendent of Police Eshwara Rao, won the award for detecting a rape and murder of a minor girl. He explained the girl murdered at Guntupalli caves in Kamavarapukota mandal on February 24, 2019, and it was detected.

Police arrested four persons, who confessed to have committed 32 crimes and killed four persons at the same place in the forests in the last 20 months. But, only seven incidents were reported.

“The modus operandi of the accused is to follow the couples, attack them with dreaded weapons, sexually assault the girls and loot them. The victims were all natives of Krishna, West Godavari, Khammam and other districts of A.P. and Telangana,” the ASP said.

Third prize

Railway DSP Ramesh Babu and his team, who received third prize, gave a power point presentation, on how the accused pushed a pregnant woman, Divya Sri, from the moving train and took away jewellery worth ₹2.60 lakh, on December 18, 2018. The Government Railway Police (GRP) along with Railway Protection Force (RPF) detected the case and apprehended the accused, the DSP said.

The Sullurpet police of Nellore district and Kurnool Taluk police received consolation prizes in ABCD awards, the DGP said.

Director General (Railways) K.R.M. Kishore Kumar, Additional DG (Law and Order) Ravi Shankar Ayyannar, ADG (CID) Amit Garg, ADG (P&L) Ravi Kumar Gupta and other officers were present.
