Tension prevails in AOB area

Tension prevailed in the Andhra Odisha Border (AOB) area as well as in the interior parts of Visakhapatnam Agency on Saturday, as combing operation intensified, a day after a couple of exchanges of fire between security forces and Maoists at cut-off area near Malkangiri district of Odisha on Thursday and Friday. A police force has also been deployed to the Agency areas in Visakhapatnam district.

A Maoist aged around 25 years was reportedly killed during second EOF on Friday and the police recovered one SLR with ammunitions and one Lee Enfield .303 rifle. Police are even yet to ascertain the identity of the slain Maoist.

The AP Greyhounds and SOG (Special Operations Group) of Odisha had launched a joint operation after inputs over presence of a contingent of Maoists, including Central Committee Member Akkiraju Haragopal alias Ramakrishna alias RK and AOBSZC leader Gajarla Ravi alias Uday near Jodambo region. However, they escaped from the spot.
