Temple lands: names of encroachers to be displayed

Encroachers of temple lands in Andhra Pradesh would soon find their names on display on the premises of the temple.

Apart from initiating action to oust the encroachers, the government has decided to display the names of violators on the premises of respective temples, Endowments Minister P. Manikyala Rao told reporters here on Wednesday.

Mr. Rao, who reviewed the activities of the Endowments department on Tuesday, said around 20,000 acres of the 3 lakh acres of temple lands have been encroached upon all over the State and maximum encroachments were reported from Krishna district.He also said the department's portal would be launched by November 1 as part of the e-pragati project of the State government. While there are more than 20,000 temples in the State, complete details pertaining to each of the 150 temples having an income of more than Rs. 1 crore per year would be posted on the portal.

Details such as daily collections, services being offered, number of devotees visiting each temple and time taken for darshan would be available on the portal. Devotees would be able to book in advance seva tickets. The devotees could also post their complaints and suggestions. The movable and immovable assets details would also be available on the portal.

Mr. Rao said it was decided to promote prasadams prepared with organic materials in all prominent temples. He said use of solar energy would also be promoted in various temples and a project with roof solar panels would be taken up at Kanaka Durga temple in Vijayawada.

Referring to charges of irregularities against officials in various temples, he said such officials were transferred in cases of prima facie pending inquiry. He said Dasara ussera festival would be orgnised as a State festival. Mr. Rao declared that the entire Endowments Department would be shifted to Vijayawada region by November 1.
