Telangana complains to KRMB

A complaint lodged by the Telangana Irrigation Department against Andhra Pradesh to the Krishna River Management Board (KRMB) that its engineers were not being allowed to measure the volume of water being discharged from the Pothireddypadu Head Regulator (PRP HR) has led to consternation among senior leaders of the YSR Congress Party (YSRCP).

Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao in his very brief speech at Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy’s swearing-in ceremony had said that his State would extend full cooperation when it came to sharing of water from irrigation projects that were common to the Two States.

Mr. Jagan too has not spared any platform to stress the importance of the peaceful coexistence between neighbouring States when it came to sharing of water. He even acted on his words when a delegation led by a Tamil Nadu Minister asked for drinking water for Chennai city.

Notwithstanding all this camaraderie, the Telangana Irrrigation Engineering-in-chief C. Muralidhar on August 14 wrote to the KRMB Chairman asking him “to take necessary action in the matter immediately as otherwise the entire system will lose it credibility.”

In the letter, the irrigation chief said that TS engineers were not allowed to make measurements at PRP HR on two occasions despite the standing instructions of the board.

The letter included measurements made at a point 3 km downstream the PRP HR.
