TDP’s Mahanadu in Hyderabad to check slide in TS

Party aims at rejuvenating the rank and file ahead of GHMC elections

May 03, 2015 12:00 am | Updated April 03, 2016 12:13 am IST - HYDERABAD:

Over-riding the widespread demand for conducting the party’s biennial conclave Mahanadu at Amaravathi, the capital-designate town in Andhra Pradesh, the polit bureau of Telugu Desam Party (TDP) has decided to organise the meeting at the regular venue at Gandipet here from May 27 to 29.

The decision was taken apparently to check the slide in the party ranks in Telangana, particularly ahead of the impending elections to GHMC by the year-end. It is also aimed at boosting the sagging morale among the party ranks in Telangana following defection of five out of its 15 MLAs along with their supporters to TRS. Besides, several MLCs of the party also deserted it during the last 11 months. However, senior leader of the party Ravula Chandrasekhar Reddy told newspersons after the polit bureau meeting that the decision to hold Mahanadu here was taken due to “time constraints and convenience”. “We have an established set up here to organise such a massive meeting. It can be held in Andhra Pradesh next year”, Mr. Reddy said adding that formation of all committees of the party both for Andhra Pradesh and Telangana would be completed before May 27.
