Alleging that TDP had taken an ambiguous stand on the Telangana issue, Telangana political Joint Action Committee (JAC) today demanded that the party pass a pro-Telangana state resolution during its ongoing annual conclave.
“TDP does not have a clear stand on Telangana. They are voicing region-wise demands. If the TDP passes a resolution at the ongoing ‘Mahanadu” (annual party conclave), then we can increase pressure on the Congress government at the Centre,” JAC Convener M Kodandaram told reporters here today.
The statements of Telangana-origin leaders of TDP about their commitment to the separate statehood cause would not have credibility as long as the party adopted an unclear stand, he said.
Replying to a query, he said the JAC was open to work with suspended TDP leader Nagam Janardhan Reddy if he was willing, and announced his plan of action.
Mr. Janardhan Reddy, a senior MLA, was suspended from TDP two days ago for `anti-party activities’ such as holding pro-Telangana public meetings without the party flag.
The JAC presently comprises TRS, BJP and a number of people’s organisations. TDP has often accused the JAC of acting at the behest of TRS.
The JAC convener appealed to the people to make the pro-Telangana meeting being organised by BJP at Karimnagar on May 31 a grand success. The meeting will be attended by senior BJP leader and leader of opposition in Lok Sabha, Sushma Swaraj, who had raised the Telangana demand in the Parliament earlier.
The JAC is organising a public meeting at Mahabubabad in Warangal district tomorrow to commemorate the incident on May 28 last year, when Kadapa MP Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy was stopped by Telangana supporters from undertaking his ‘odarpu yatra’
“Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy represented the hegemonic agenda of non-Telangana regions. He was stopped at Mahabubabad railway station by valiant Telangana supporters, braving policemen. The public meeting is being organised to recall the incident and to hail the spirit of brave Telangana sons,” said P Ravinder, a JAC leader said.
