TDP rallies around arrested MLA

Revant confines to daughter’s engagement, CM attends the programme

In a show of solidarity, top Telugu Desam Party leaders and the Andhra Pradesh Cabinet, led by Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu, rallied around A. Revanth Reddy, arrested MLA, and attended the engagement of his daughter at a luxury convention centre here on Thursday.

The MLA, who was arrested in the cash-for-vote scam, was released from the Cherlapalli Central Jail on conditional bail for 12 hours from 6 a.m. on Thursday. Accompanied by his wife, Geeta Reddy, and the bride, Nymisha, he arrived at the venue appearing calm and confined himself to the rituals. Mr. Naidu arrived with his wife, Bhuvaneswari, son, Lokesh, and daughter-in-law, Brahmani, 25 minutes before the function started.

The who’s who of the party, transcending regional barriers, made it a point to be present in an expression of support to the MLA and his family. After the function, Mr. Reddy went to his Jubilee Hills residence around 2.30 p.m. After an hour and a half, he was escorted back to prison and by 5.10 p.m., he was inside his cell.

The leaders and celebrities came in a steady stream of swanky car. Mr. Reddy introduced the bridegroom, G. Satyanarayan Reddy, son of Venkat Reddy and Lakshmi Parvathi, to Mr. Naidu. Congress Legislature Party leader K. Jana Reddy and Rajya Sabha member Palvai Goverdhan Reddy, the former Ministers P. Sabitha Indra Reddy and Danam Nagender and former MLA P. Vishnuvardhan Reddy were present.
