May 27, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:52 am IST - HYDERABAD:

With sights set on becoming a national party, Telugu Desam leadership is studying if the party could have a new symbol in other States, while retaining its bicycle in Andhra Pradesh and Telangana States.

National party

The issue of party’s expansion to other States and the plan to emerge as a national party would be discussed at Mahanadu, beginning here on Wednesday.

The party is planning to start membership drive shortly in Tamil Nadu, Karnataka and Andaman and Nicobar Islands.

A political party should have presence in a minimum of four States and secure at least six per cent vote share, besides having four MPs to get recognition as a national party.

With Janata Parivar reportedly planning to seek bicycle as national symbol, TDP sources said various aspects were being studied with regard to having a new symbol for other States and no decision was taken yet.
