A majority of the Congress MPs from Telangana are reportedly cold to the invitation extended by the Telangana Rashtra Samiti (TRS) chief K. Chandrasekhar Rao to join his party.
Baring three from North Telangana, who may ultimately switch their loyalties, others MPs are non-committal and do not wish to take a decision in haste just because the TRS chief has set a deadline.
A scheduled meeting at the residence of CWC member K. Keshava Rao to discuss the entire gamut of issues had to be cancelled after Ponnam Prabhakar, S. Rajaiah and Manda Jagannath chose to interact with Peddapalli MP G. Vivekananda on Monday at his house.
Other MPs -- Madhu Yaskhi, Gutha Sukhender Reddy and Komatireddy Rajagopal Reddy -- did not turn up, an indication that all of them are not on the same page vis-à-vis the TRS.
Dr. Keshava Rao joined the meeting where the discussion centred around KCR’s offer and their next course of action. Barring Mr. Prabhakar, the other three are said to have expressed their strong displeasure at the high command for delaying a decision on the statehood issue.
They were not sure whether the new political front proposed by some senior Congress leaders with Union Minister S. Jaipal Reddy and Panchayat Raj Minister K. Jana Reddy in the lead role would take off at all. The MPs plan to raise the Telangana issue forcefully in the Lok Sabha when it resumes its sitting from April 22.
Party sources maintain that Mr. Yaskhi and Mr. Prabhakar have made up their mind not to align with the TRS at any cost.
Mr. Yaskhi, according to sources, may be reluctant to join the TRS because KCR is said to be toying with the idea of fielding his daughter Kavitha from Nizamabad LS constituency. In such a scenario, Mr. Yaskhi may be offered Malkajgiri.
