Tributes were paid to freedom fighter and statesman Tanguturi Prakasam Pantulu on his 146th birth anniversary, here on Thursday.

Nellore District Collector R. Mutyala Raju and Mayor Abdul Azeez joined others and garlanded the statue of the “Andhra Kesari” near the Madras bus stand centre.

Leaders of the Andhra Pradesh Brahmin Sevasangh Samakhya, led by its president V. Chandra Mouli, recalled the contributions of Pantulu during the freedom struggle and as the first Chief Minister of the Andhra State after independence.

In Ongole, Environment Minister Sidda Raghava Rao, MLA D. Janardhana Rao and District Collector V.Vinay Chand paid floral tributes to Pantulu, who was also a successful lawyer.

Administrative acumen

Mr. Rao said that as the State at present was in a situation similar to 1953, when it was carved out of the Madras Presidency, lessons could be learnt from the administrative acumen of Pantulu.
