The Sub-Group of Chief Ministers on Swachh Bharat met under the chairmanship/ convenorship of Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu in Delhi on Thursday and decided to constitute a working group to study the best practices. Talking to reporters after the meeting at Delhi, Mr. Naidu said the Sub-Group had a preliminary discussion based on the guidelines issued by the Government of India. He said presentations were made by the nine States (whose Chief Ministers are members of the Sub –Group) on how the programme was being implemented.
Stating that the implementation of ‘Swachh Bharat’ mission needed to be speeded up, he said a working group was constituted to study the best practices in the country.
The need for sending some members to other countries (to study sanitation practices) was also being examined. He said the next meeting of the Sub-Group would be at Chandigarh and the third meeting would be held in South India. If necessary, the Sub-Group members would make field visits and the final report on Swachh Bharat would be submitted to Union government by June-end.
He said the meeting also discussed ways to create awareness. Technologies from other countries would also be imported and modified to suit the country’s requirements.
Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and Chief Minister of Haryana Manohar Lal Khattar attended the meeting. Ministers and officials from member States were present.
