Sleuths of the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) caught Sekappa, superintendent in the office of the Deputy Director of Social Welfare, Kurnool, red-handed on Monday while he was accepting a bribe of Rs. 20,000 to process a file of one Dharma Raju, who started an NGO named GRASS (Green and Animal Savers Society), Kurnool ACB circle inspector Seetharama Rao said.
ACB DSP Mahabub Basha, Circle Inspectors Seetharama Rao and Krishna Reddy and staff made the arrest.
Mr. Dharma Raju had recently submitted a representation to the District Collector, seeking recognition for his NGO, as an outsourcing agency that provides class IV employees to SC hostels in Kurnool district.
The Collector then referred the request to the DD of Social Welfare and he endorsed it to Mr. Sekappa, the ACB circle inspector said.
When Mr. Dharma Raju approached the superintendent, he demanded a bribe of Rs. 50,000 to forward the file to the higher-ups.
The accused will be produced before the court on Tuesday, the ACB officials added.
