BJP Rajya Sabha member Y. Sujana Chowdary has assailed the style of functioning of the Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy government for reducing the administration to negating former Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu’s decisions.

Whether it was cancelling contracts, or taking measures to deal with the flood situation, the YSRCP government was acting only to oppose the decisions of the previous dispensation, Mr. Chowdary said at a press conference here on Saturday.

Reverse tendering

He criticised the cancellation of contracts in the wake of an economic depression forecast.

“Whether it is reverse tendering, or forward tendering, it all appears to be a a gimmick. It has to be seen how much work has been done and what remains to be done, and how to get financial support and continue the work on Polavaram project,” he said, reminding that parties change but the government was a continuous affair.

“The government, by getting personal in several respects, has brought economic activity to a standstill,” Mr. Chowdary said, and added that even the MGNREGS funds were stopped. “Similar is the situation on the sand policy,” he observed.

Even in tackling floods, even after the Karnataka government had warned of heavy discharge, the State government’s approach appeared to be getting personal, he alleged.

Several areas were reeling under flood, and the government should change its attitude and look at how it could serve the people, Mr. Chowdary said, and demanded that relief to the flood-hit increased from ₹5,000 to ₹10,000.

Defends joining BJP

Mr. Chowdary, who was here for the party’s membership drive, defended his joining the BJP stating that political leaders take decisions based on several factors.

“I had opposed the TDP severing ties with the NDA when I was in that party and also attacking Prime Minister Modi personally. Before the general elections, I had tried to correct from within the TDP,” he said.

Former MP and BJP national executive member K. Haribabu, MLC P.V.N. Madhav, former MLA P. Vishnu Kumar Raju, party city president M. Nagendra, and State secretary Kasi Viswanadha Raju were present.
