Elephant hospital coming up in State

June 08, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:46 am IST - Thrissur:

India’s first exclusive hospital for elephants will come up in Kerala, elephant veterinarian Jacob Cheeran has said.

Talking to reporters here on Sunday, he said the hospital would have an in-patient treatment facility for 10 elephants at a time, besides a state-of-the-art laboratory facility.

Dr. Cheeran said the inpatient facility had become essential as majority of the 500 captive elephants in the State would be over 50 years and would require augmented health-care support.

The hospital would be set up on a five-acre plot at Kerala Veterinary and Animal Sciences University, Mannuthy.

It would cost Rs.10 crore. — IANS
