Showing the way for elders, students of the Kendriya Vidyalaya here pulled up their socks and took up a massive campaign to promote ethical voting ahead of the May 7 simultaneous elections to the Lok Sabha and the State Assembly.
The students, enlightened by their Social Sciences teacher, swarmed the sprawling P.V.R. Municipal Boys High School Grounds. Braving the scorching summer, they sat in a pattern to resemble the India map and performed skits underscoring the need for elders to compulsorily exercising their franchisewithout succumbing to any inducements.
The cultural programmes highlighted unity in diversity, the essential cultural character of the nation, to win the appreciation of, among others, Prakasam district Collector G.S.R.K.R.Vijaykumar, who released pigeons on the occasion.
The students got back from their parents signed papers pledging to fulfil their constitutional duty without fail.
The schoolchildren along with their parents got an opportunity to familiarise themselves with the polling process at a model polling station set up for the purpose.
The students were thrilled to observe the functioning of the EVMs including None Of The Above(NOTA) option introduced by the Election Commission to bring back to the polling booth a section of people keeping away from the polling process unhappy with the contestants in the fray, said Systematic Voters Education and Electoral Participation Programme (SVEEP) Nodal officer Dr. B.Ravi.
