Seeking justice: Women staging a relay fast in Kurnool on Saturday.

District Mahila Congress president Patnam Rajeswari and some women launched a relay hunger strike in front of the Collectorate here on Saturday demanding the arrest of Cattamanchi Ramalinga Reddy High School chairman V. Janardhan Reddy and his sons Harshvardhan Reddy and Diwakar Reddy in connection with the suspicious death of an SSC student Preethi Bai in the school hostel last week.

Under the banner of Preethi Bai Nyaya Porata Committee, the protesting women accused the police of shielding the culprits and trying to hush up the case. They demanded suspension of Kurnool Taluk circle inspector Maheswar Reddy.

On Friday, leaders of Dalit organisations staged a demonstration before the District Collector’s camp office braving heavy rain and Collector S. Satyanarayana and SP Gopinath Jatti assured them of taking steps to render justice to the family of the deceased student.
