Student rusticated for thrashing three juniors

A senior student of Chilamathur Government Junior College in the district thrashed three junior students of Sericulture Vocational Course on Tuesday, but the incident came to light only on Thursday after a student uploaded the video clip on social media. While one student was beating them, another student filmed it on cell phone.

According to Chilamathur SI P. Mahanandi, junior students made a complaint to them on Wednesday that their senior had beaten them by confining them to a room in the college. Investigation revealed that the junior students had been smoking cigarettes in front of the college and a lecturer chided them and warned them against repeating it. When the senior came to know about it, he took it upon himself to discipline them and thrashed them by locking them in a classroom. When the principal of the college was asked why no action was taken even two days after the incident, he said it came to their notice only after the clip went viral on social media. The senior student had been given TC, the police added.

Now, a Ragging Committee would go into the incident after the parents blamed the college management for not taking action against the students indulging in such violent activity.

The SI said that only after the committee confirmed it as an act of ragging, a case of ragging would be registered against the minor student. For now, a case of beating with sticks had been registered, he said.
