Chittoor Superintendent of Police (SP) Vikrant Patil said regular dissemination of information would keep people informed and help in crime prevention.
Speaking at the release of the crime bulletin for November in Chittoor on Friday, Mr. Patil pointed to police initiatives on road safety that had helped reduce accidents.
“The department accords top priority to women safety. We are maintaining a strict vigil around schools and colleges in the district,” he said.

According to the bulletin, the district witnessed four murders, two murder attempts, five rapes, two kidnaps, four cases pertaining to Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe (Prevention of Atrocities) Act, 1989, 14 case of cheating, two cases of dacoity, 32 thefts, 27 serious road accidents and 41 accidents. As many as 492 persons were arrested in 299 cases.
Car thieves
Meanwhile, with surveillance on the Karnataka border, the district police recovered seven stolen cars. Sleuths, led by Deputy Superintendent of Police (Palamaner) N.T.V. Ramkumar, arrested A. Dinesh Kumar (32) of Katpadi (Tamil Nadu) when he tried to leave a car and flee.
Dinesh admitted to being part of a gang that passed on stolen cars to a Chennai-based car dealer. Six other cars were recovered, but their drivers fled. The value of the cars is estimated to be around ₹70 lakh.
Bikes recovered
The Tirupati Urban police arrested four bike lifters and recovered four stolen motorcycles from them on Thursday.
Acting on a tip-off, Inspector C. Bhaskar Reddy arrested Shaik Asif (24), R.Seenu (20) and C. Sarat Babu (26), all from Chandragiri, and S. Harikrishna (24) of Eguva Thadakara of Thavanampalle mandal, near the Regional Science Centre.
According to Additional Superintendent of Police (Crime) D. Sidda Reddy, Asif was found to have committed a similar offence in the past and even jailed for it by the Chittoor police.
