Work on the Polavaram irrigation project has been progressing for the last four years with the ₹9,000 crore funds given by the NDA government at the Centre, but Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu only talks about the ₹3,000 crore not released by it, BJP Mahila Morcha in-charge D. Purandeswari has said.

Addressing a meeting organised at Penukonda on Sunday to express the party’s support to the demand of the Valmikis that they be included in the list of Scheduled Tribes, Ms. Purandeswari said though the Centre had been extending liberal financial support to the Anantapur-Amaravati Expressway, it was not being acknowledged. “A.P. is witnessing development with the support of the BJP-led NDA government at the Centre. But Mr. Naidu is projecting it as though the entire money is being footed by the State government,” she said.

Party State vice-president Vishnuvardhan asked the Chief Minister to give answers to the 100 questions posed to him by party State president Kanna Lakshminarayana. “If Mr. Naidu is confident of coming out unscathed, let him hand over all cases of corruption to the CBI. Such a step will also help improve his image,” said Mr. Lakshminarayana.

Referring to Mr. Naidu’s statement sometime ago that all corrupt parties would ally with the Congress, Mr. Lakshminarayana questioned, “Is Mr. Naidu accepting that his party is corrupt?”

Support to TRS

Later, addressing the media, Ms. Purandeswari concurred with her party Telangana unit president K. Laxman, and said that the BJP would support the TRS in forming the government if it fell short of majority.

“The support will, however, be conditional. The TRS should break its ties with the All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM),” she said, and hastened to add that a decision to this effect would be taken by the party leadership and the State unit if the TRS approached it.
