The house-warming programme will be organised in 174 constituencies covering 12,767 gram panchayats.

After successfully inaugurating one lakh houses at one go on Gandhi Jayanti last year, the State government is gearing up to do it on a bigger scale on July 5 (Thursday). As many as three lakh families would move into the newly constructed houses all over the State on that day.

The house-warming programme will be organised in 174 constituencies covering 12,767 gram panchayats and 2,093 municipal wards covering 664 mandals and 110 municipalities. Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu would inaugurate the second phase of the programme at the Indira Gandhi Municipal Corporation (IGMC) Stadium here.

E. Godavari tops list

East Godavari district tops the list with as many as 37,207 ceremonies, while Kadapa comes last with 15,891 houses readied for griha pravesam. In Vizianagaram and Srikakulam districts, 16,645 and 19,792 houses respectively are ready for Phase II; 29,625 in Visakhapatnam, 27,710 in West Godavari, 20,109 in Krishna, 24,767 in Guntur, 19,655 in Prakasam, 19,047 in Nellore, 20,888 in Chittoor, 24,422 in Anantapur, and 30,345 in Kurnool district are ready.

“Nowhere in the world, inauguration of three lakh houses has been done at the same time. Explore the possibility of the massive effort getting into the Guinness Book of World Records,” Mr. Naidu told the officials on Tuesday.

As many as 1.05 lakh houses have been constructed in the last three years. The benefits of welfare schemes should reach the needy irrespective of political affiliations. Merely doing justice to them would not suffice. The beneficiary should feel that justice has been done to him, he said.

Ambitious target

“Over 3 lakh houses, 3,00,346 to be precise, including rural and urban, have been completed in the State, and they are ready for occupation. This includes 5,118 houses constructed under the NTR Special Housing Scheme (for Hudhud victims),” said I&PR and Rural Housing Minister Kaluva Srinivasulu.

The government set a target of completing 10 lakh houses by 2019, and has been maintaining transparency in housing projects by introducing cashless transactions. The amount is being credited online into the respective beneficiaries’ accounts. He said people’s participation is more in the housing scheme.
