YSR Congress honorary president Y.S. Vijaya Lakshmi on Sunday called on her party MPs staging an indefinite fast in New Delhi and said it was not late to achieve the Special Category Status (SCS). She stressed on taking the issue forward by looking beyond party and ideological affiliations as it was the lifeline of Andhra Pradesh.

Ms. Vijaya Lakshmi claimed that the party had maintained a consistent stand that only the Status could usher in development. She said Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu had spoken in different voices on it, and could not get a single major industry and complete one irrigation project.
“Jagan has categorically said the fight will continue till his last breath and there will be no compromise. Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy wanted a bigger State which would have had more representation in the Lok Sabha and the numbers would gain the attention of the Chair. The State was divided to weaken the bargaining power,” she said.
Tirupati MP V. Varaprasada Rao was forcefully shifted to hospital after his health deteriorated on Sunday morning.
Ms. Vijaya Lakshmi met Nellore MP Mekapati Rajamohan Reddy at the Ram Manohar Lohia hospital where he was admitted on Saturday when he developed complications due to fasting. Y.V. Subba Reddy (Ongole), Y.S. Avinash Reddy (Kadapa) and P.V. Mithun Reddy (Rajampet) continued their protest.
