Film playback singer S.P. Balasubrahmanyam is going to be chief guest of the diamond jubilee celebrations of the city-based Gangadharam Music Party, the first orchestra troupe in the State, on November 1.

Along with his co-singer Kalpana and a few other upcoming singers, Mr. Balasubrahmanyam will conduct a musical nite at Anand Bharati Grounds on the Cinema Road from 6 p.m.

The diamond jubilee will be celebrated for two days from October 31 and noted astrologer Chandrabhatla Ganapati Sastry, president of the Young Men’s Happy Club theatre troupe Dantu Surya Rao and others will participate in the inaugural function.

Home Minister N. Chinarajappa, local elected representatives and officials will participate in the valedictory function on the second day. Addressing a press conference here on Monday, founder of the troupe Peddireddi Gangadharam said that he had established the orchestra in 1955 at the age of 17.

“This is the first ever orchestra in the State and is the platform for many upcoming singers and musicians,” he said, adding that he had been maintaining the records of every concert and so far the troupe completed 9,000 shows in various parts of the country.

Thanking Mr. Balasubrahmanyam for accepting his invitation, Mr. Gangadharam said that the singer had been supporting the orchestra in different farms for the last five decades.
