Solar CCTVs at sand reaches soon

In an attempt to stem illegal mining and transportation of sand, District Collector M.M. Nayak said that solar operative CC cameras would be installed at sand reaches by the end of this month.

Allaying apprehensions on availability of sand following heavy rain that submerged 21 out of 41 identified sand reaches, Mr. Nayak said the situation was expected to improve in the next one week, as officials had been directed to identify more sand reaches shortly to meet the demand. On an average, 1,200 consumers submit applications for sand everyday. The earnings through sale of 3,71,920 cubic metres out of 8,96,890 cubic metres available is Rs. 18.27crore, of which the government’s share is Rs. 11.86crore, he added.
