Activists of the Shantivanam Foundation, a socio-cultural organisation, embarked on a district-wide cycle yatra from here on Monday to raise the level of environment consciousness of people and also kindle interest among them on book reading.

Flagging off the 23-day cycle yatra, Zilla Parishad Chairman Edara Haribabu said “cycling is a must to keep oneself hale and hearty and protect the fragile environment.” The youth should be roped in to adopt at least one sapling and nurture them as it grow, he added.

Foundation president K. Sudhakar said the cycle yatra would cover Gundlamala, Tangutur, Singarayakonda, Ulavapadu, Kandukur, Kanigiri, Darsi, Podili and Chimakurthy and create awareness among people on healthy lifestyle.

Shanthivanam would adopt poor students so that they could continue their education without any hitch, added its secretary Manchikanti. Saplings would be planted in all the villages en route with the active participation of the villagers.
