Six of a family killed in a road accident in Kurnool

A family outing turned tragic as six members were killed and 15 others were grievously injured when an unidentified vehicle, probably a lorry, collided with their stationary mini truck ('Tata Ace' vehicle) near Peddahothur area in Alur mandal of Kurnool district, in the early hours of Wednesday.

The deceased have been identified as Khaja (24), Fatima (26), Hussain (23), Asif (17), Asrar (9) and Mahek (7).

Preliminary reports indicate that there were about 21 persons, all of them belonging to the same family and hailing from Old Town area of Kurnool, travelling to Ellarthi Dargah near Adoni.

The mini truck, which they have hired for the journey, had been reportedly displaying technical snags, prompting for intermittent stops to rectify the issues.

The accident occurred, when the vehicle was being repaired near Peddahothur area and all but the six members chose to stay on the truck. An unidentified vehicle, which the police ascertain to be a lorry/truck, rammed into the stationary vehicle and killed the six persons, who stayed on the mini truck, instantly. Other 15 members sustained minor to grievous injuries and were shifted to nearby government hospital in Alur.

The police have registered a case and have launched an investigation.
