Sivaji slams BJP on special status

The actor decides to continue his fast keeping police on tenterhooks

Fasting actor Sivaji on Tuesday upped his ante against Bharatiya Janata Party saying that the party had gone back on its commitment to Andhra Pradesh by not grating special status for mere political reasons.

The actor earlier imposed a deadline of 48 hours but decided to continue his fast keeping the police on tenterhooks.

“The fast launched by Sivaji is unwarranted in the present circumstances as there are more pressing issues like sharing of river waters. The special status is given to certain states because of their inherent features. Neighbouring states like Tami Nadu had already voiced their concerns over this,” said Professor of Economics, Hindu College, L.S.N. Prasad.

Women’s threat

Mr. Sivaji went a step ahead and in veiled remarks directed against Prime Minister Narendra Modi, he said, “Modiji was portrayed as a ‘chai walah’ and a humble RSS worker who had even served tea, but lakhs of ‘chaiwalahs,’ in AP are waiting to hear from him over the special status,” he said addressing media persons.

Earlier, some drama was witnessed at the camp as women belonging to civic organisations threatened to immolate themselves if police try to forcibly remove the actor from the place and foil his fast.

Continuing his tirade against the BJP, Mr. Sivaji said that the party was trying to get political space in the State by denying the special status and blamed the leaders for misleading the party.

“Union Urban Development Minister M. Venkaiah Naidu has demanded on the floor of Lok Sabha in 2014 that special status should be extended to the state for 10 years. What is he doing now? Yet another Union Minister Sujana Chowdary blatantly lied to the people of the state that the Centre had released Rs.10,000 crore,” Mr. Sivaji said. The actor was later examined by a team of doctors from GGH.
