SIT a toothless tiger: Opposition

It is not allowed to investigate, says CPI(M) leader

The opposition parties on Wednesday came down heavily on the SIT, terming it a ‘toothless tiger.’ CPI(M) State secretariat member Ch Narasinga Rao said here that the SIT had been empowered only to inquire and not investigate. “What is the use of a SIT if its members’ hands are tied even before they can get down to work. There is difference between inquiry and investigation and SIT is not allowed to investigate,” he said.

The nomenclature of SIT should have been ‘Special Inquiry Team’ instead of ‘Special Investigation Team’, he added. YSRC leader G. Amarnath said the government constituted a team with a good track record, but curtailed its powers.

Mr. Vineet Brijlal is considered to be a ‘no nonsense cop’ and so is Joint Collector Srijana, but their functions are limited to measuring the lands and checking the records. “Tampering of land records is just one aspect of the scam. What about the other angles?” he asked.
