The constitution of a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to look into the land scam in Visakhapatnam was nothing but a waste of time and an attempt to sidetrack the issue, YSR Congress MLA from Nagari R.K. Roja alleged here on Thursday.

Addressing the media, Ms. Roja said nothing had come out of the several inquiries conducted by earlier SITs.

A SIT inquiry had been ordered into the killing of 30 persons in the Seshachalam forests and also the tapping of phones in the note-for-vote case.

“In fact, the second SIT was constituted to intimidate the Chief Minister of Telangana,” Ms. Roja alleged.

There were no reports or action from these teams, she said, and added: “SIT is like a snake without fangs, and therefore pointless.”

“It is for this reason that the public hearing ordered by the Deputy Chief Minister K.E. Krishnamurthy has been cancelled and a SIT inquiry constituted,” Ms. Roja alleged.

She sought to know if Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu and his son Lokesh were afraid of facing the charges.

Ms. Roja said the double standards of Mr. Naidu and the TDP with regard to CBI inquiries had now become evident.

While the TDP was pushing for a CBI inquiry into the Miyapur land scam in Telangana, it was hesitant to seek such an inquiry in Visakhapatnam, she pointed out.

Ms. Roja asked why the TDP government was afraid of a CBI inquiry. People would only hail the Chief Minister if he was absolved by the courts, Ms. Roja said.

The letter written by Minister Ganta Srinivasa Rao to Mr. Naidu against the statements made by his Cabinet colleague Ch. Ayyanna Patrudu was the initiation of a new drama to divert the issue, Ms Roja alleged.
