Minister for Roads & Buildings and Transport Sidda Raghava Rao on Sunday warned contractor Gammon India that the government would stop paying its bills if work on the fourth bridge on the Godavari is not completed by the first week of June. He also issued an ultimatum to Roads & Buildings staff to complete work on the rail-cum-road-bridge (RCRB) by the month-end and all Pushkaram-related works by June 20.

The Minister reviewed work on facilities being built for the forthcoming Pushkarams on the Airport-Kambala Tank road along with MLA Akula Satyanarayana on Sunday.

The Minister said Gammon India had pledged to complete the bridge by May 15, but given the present status of the project, completion by the June first week did not seem likely. Replying to the Minister’s displeasure, representatives of Gammon said the delay was due to late handing over of land. Further, officials had set up some ‘hurdles’ to the construction of a box-type bridge at the second end on the Konthamuru side.

Reacting to this, Mr. Raghava Rao pulled up R&B officials too. He asked engineer-in-chief G. Janardhana Rao and executive engineer T. Satyanarayana to ensure that railings on the RCRB are in place by the month-end.
