Obtaining 12B status from UGC not possible unless infrastructure in place, says Krishna Reddy

Krishna University Registrar K. Krishna Reddy, who assumed office on Wednesday, has announced his goal of shifting the university to its new 100-acre campus at Rudravaram by January 2020.

Mr. Krishna Reddy was greeted by the in-charge Vice-Chancellor Y. Sundara Krishna and the university’s teaching staff on his first day in office.

Speaking to reporters, Mr. Krishna Reddy said that obtaining 12B status from the University Grants Commission for the decade-old university would not be possible unless the university gets the infrastructure facilities including its own campus — which are essential to meet UGC parameters.

“The construction of the academic and administrative buildings on our Rudravaram campus has been completed and we are waiting to take over the buildings from the Central Public Works Department by clearing the dues of ₹12 crore. Talks with respective authorities for financial support will commence soon,” said Mr. Krishna Reddy. , who was professor of physics at Yogi Vemana University in Kadapa.

Members of the Student Federation of India’s Machilipatnam chapter on Wednesday spoke to Mr. Krishna Reddy about the problems faced by several students due to the lack of a hostel facility on the campus. Mr. Krishna Reddy assured the students that he would address the issue at the earliest.
