A full-fledged exhibition centre is proposed to be developed at a cost of Rs. 4.10 crore at the Satish Dhawan Space Centre (SDSC) located at Sriharikota here.

Popularly known as SHAR (Sriharikota High Altitude Range), the space centre has taken the tourist and visitor-friendly initiative to disseminate information about the rapid advances being made in the space and rocket science in the country.

Once the exhibition is in place, it will be open for visitors two days a week.

Sources in the SHAR have said that the facility will have such an advanced equipment that the tourists will have the feeling of directly seeing objects in space. An observatory is also being planned as part of the facility.

Three components

One of the three components of the exhibition centre is the facility where the visitors can see the different phases in which the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) has successfully carried out its space missions. It will provide information on different rockets.

The second component is that of the models of different satellites that were successfully put into space orbit by ISRO scientists. SHAR has also undertaken commercial launches wherein satellites belonging to foreign countries were also sent to the space.

The third component of the exhibition centre is the observatory where the visitors will have an opportunity to watch planets and space.

It has come as happy news for the local people here as they would get a chance to visit the SHAR facility and the exhibition centre. As SHAR is a high security facility, the visits by the general public is strictly restricted.
