The city police busted a sex racket and arrested 13 persons, including a short-film producer, here on Thursday.
The arrests were made during simultaneous raids within the police limits of Chinna Bazar, Nawabpet, Dargamitta, Vedayapalem and Balaji Nagar, Deputy Superintendent of Police J. Srinivasa Reddy told the media here.
The main accused Shaik Zakeer Hussain, a short-film maker, used to lure girls and women by promising them a chance to act in films. Without their knowledge, he used to electronically record the victims in a compromising position and force them to do commercial sex work by threatening to put the video recordings on the social media, the DSP said.
Victim complains
A victim from Kavali picked up the courage and lodged a complaint with the police following which raids were conducted across the city leading to the arrest of eight organisers and five customers. Seven victims were shifted to rescue homes.
Six cases were registered against the accused, the DSP said.
The other arrested were Shaik Noori (28), P. Suma (24), Y. Prabhakar (33), B. Srilakshmi (42), Y. Narasimha (25), K. Malleswari(27), R. Lakshmi (29), K. Srinivas (40), M .Srinivasa Rao (49), K Sunitha (24), V. Suman (34), K. Priyanka (24) and B. Vamsi Krishna (23).
A laptop, car, motorcycle, 14 mobile phones and ₹12,300 cash were seized from them.
