Seven-year-old student dies of sunstroke

A seven-year-old Nikhita died in hospital in Parigi manal after being admitted as a case of sunstroke induced unconsciousness. This was the first case of sunstroke death in the district this season.

According to the Parigi police, about twenty students in various age groups were taken ill due to sunstroke at the Padma Sai coaching centre, Kodiganhalli village of the Parigi mandal in the district. The students were taken there for coaching to appear entrance examinations into the educational institutions being run by the Sathya Sai Trust in Puttaparthy and in Karnataka.

Parents of the students staged a sit-in protest opposite the coaching centre while the teachers and management of the institutions closed down the centre and left the place.

Meanwhile, in-charge collector Lakshmikantam ordered an inquiry into the issue even as the police also registered a case.

Meanwhile, temperature for the last few days has been consistently hovering around 43 degree Celsius.
