The Central Crime Station police busted a 10-member gang involved in printing and circulation of counterfeit currency, arrested seven of them and recovered 123 fake notes of Rs. 100 denomination and material being used for printing the notes. Deputy Superintendent of Police Pitta Somasekhar, at a press conference here, charged Medapati Kanakadurga Prasada Reddy of Arthamuru village in Mandapeta mandal with involvement in counterfeit currency racket in Visakhapatnam and subsequently forming a gang of his own in East Godavari district.
“On June 5, we received a complaint from the owner of a wine shop at Ghati Centre that the accused was spotted with some fake currency in his cash box. We have started investigating into it and busted the gang yesterday evening,” the DSP said. The police arrested Nallamilli Srinivasa Reddy of Balabhadrapuram, Karri Srinivasa Reddy of Rajahmundry, Kovvuri Srinivasa Reddy of Chinna Polamuru, Karri Ramadeva Reddy of Turangi, Kovvuri Santosh Muralikumar Reddy of Turangi and Nallamilli Ganapati Reddy of Balabhadrapuram and produced them in court. The police are on the look out for three more accused.
