The YSR Congress cadres on Monday intensified their protests seeking Special Category Status for Andhra Pradesh and special package for development of Rayalaseema, by staging dharnas and relay hunger strikes.

As part of the State-wide stir, the party activists stormed the government offices at mandal level across the Chittoor district, demanding special status to AP.

YSR Congress district president and Gangadhara Nellore MLA Kalattur Narayanaswamy visited the relay fast camps at Punganur and staged a protest in front of the tehsildar's office there. Speaking to the media, Mr Narayanaswamy alleged that the TDP government was spending Rs. 400 crore for the foundation laying ceremony of the capital city and termed it as ‘sheer extravagance’.

The groundbreaking ceremony was planned in such a huge manner only to fill the pockets of the TDP cadres, he alleged.

In Palamaner, party MLA N. Amarnatha Reddy staged a demonstration at the tehsildar’s office.

Similar protests were organised at Penumuru, Piler, Tavanampalle, Chittoor town and Kuppam too.

In Kurnool, YSR Trade Union Congress members staged a relay faston the second day of the party’s protest on Monday seeking special category status to Andhra Pradesh and a special package to Rayalaseema.
