SCR surpasses target in freight loading

GM attributes it to ‘multi-pronged’ strategy

The current financial year 2018-19, is a remarkable one for South Central Railway (SCR), as the the zone registered the highest ever freight loading since inception.

SCR loaded 117.16 million tonnes (MTs) by March 18, this year, and surpassed the earlier best freight loading of 116.80 MTs, during 2014-15. The Railway Board has set the target of 111 MT during the current financial year. The zone has earned ₹10,745 crore revenue on freight loading, which was ₹8,331 crore in the last fiscal.

SCR General Manager Gajanan Mallya said the zone has achieved the target due to multi-pronged strategy, identifying traffic trends, enhancing operational efficiency and tap the freight traffic sources when compared with the competitors.

The GM complimented Principal Chief Operations Manager N. Madhusudhana Rao, Chief Electrical Locomotive Engineer B. Gopinath Mallya, Chief Freight Transportation Manager P. Ravi Kumar and other officers on achieving the target, ahead of the completion of the financial year.

SCR transported 64.14 MTs of coal of Singareni Collieries Company Limited (SCCL) to various destinations, and rose to the demand in supplying coal to various power houses in the region, railway officials said.

Besides coal, 27 MTs of cement was loaded, 5.88 MTs of fertilizer, 5.45 MTs of iron ore, 4.33 MTs of food grains and 2.75 MTs of raw material to steel plants have been loaded.
