Stressing the need for conserving energy for the future generations, Institution of Engineers (India) on Sunday, conducted a rally highlighting the importance of the issue and to spread awareness among people. The event was held to mark the inaugural of a week-long – ‘Energy Conservation Mission Programme’.

The rally, described as ‘Energy Conservation Run’, began from the local NTR Circle to the premises of Sri Venkateswara University (SVU). Enthusiastic participants wore t-shirts and caps, conveying various messages about energy conservation. They further raised slogans and held placards with an effort to drive the point home.

Speaking on the occasion, SVU Registrar M. Devarajulu explained the importance of tapping renewable energy sources and said they, at the varsity campus, would install a solar plant, in the coming days. Southern Discom Former Chairman and Managing Director K. Vidyasagar Reddy urged the people to use energy judiciously and called upon their support to save water, energy and greenery for the future generations.

NREDCAP District Manager C.B. Jagadeeswara Reddy spoke about the initiative and explained several aspects of energy conservation, including alternative energy resources like solar, wind, water and biogas. The week-long programme will be held at various colleges of the temple city to bring awareness among students on energy conservation. IEI Tirupati Local Centre Chairman P. Krishnaiah, Secretary S. Narayana Reddy, SVUCE Principal J. Karthikeyan and several others took part.
