Businessman-turned-RTI activist, Chand Pasha Gour, was assaulted in broad daylight allegedly by followers of Hubballi-Dharwad Municipal Corporation councillor and former Mayor, Prakash Kyarakatti, near the head post office here on Monday.

He has been admitted to KIMS Hospital with a head injury.

Mr. Gour told presspersons that the followers of the former Mayor and some friends of his son, Srinivas Kyarakatti, waylaid his motorcycle and attacked him with hockey sticks and weapons.

Mr. Gour had recently provided information about the irregularities allegedly committed by Mr. Prakash and his son as chairman and CEO of Infotech Computer Education, which supplies manpower to HDMC since 2008.

Exposing the irregularities through a Kannada news channel, the activist had released documents on how the councillor and his son had allegedly cheated employees by not remitting the PF and ESI amounts deducted from their salaries to the government agencies concerned. He had also exposed how the councillor was allegedly fleecing street vendors by collecting more market cess than stipulated.
