RTC unions to go on strike from tomorrow

With the talks of seeking the payment of 43 per cent fitment on par with government employees reaching no consensus, Andhra Pradesh State Road Transport Corporation (APSRTC) workers unions and other related associations have announced to go on a strike from May 6.

Addressing the media, here on Monday, APSRTC Employees Union State secretary J. Prakash said bus services would not be operated in Andhra Pradesh and Telangana, including the buses to the hill shrine of Tirumala. “As many as 28,000 buses, in both the States, will stay off roads until the issue is resolved,” he maintained. Mr. Prakash further recollected the situation of RTC employees during the agitations for a unified state (Samaikyandhra agitation), and urged the social organisations, NGOs, students and political parties, to exert pressure on the State government for fulfilling their demands. Union's regional president E.R. Kumar, secretary N. Vijay Kumar, and leaders P.S.M. Babu Rao, and M. Venkatesh took part.
