The Andhra Pradesh State Road Transport Corporation (APSRTC) will operate about 5,000 buses to shift the polling staff.
Besides 100 goods transport vehicles will be arranged to transport the EVMs, VVPATs and other material to the booths.
According to the District Collectors, who are the District Election Officers (EDOs), about 500 buses are necessary to shift the staff and security personnel to the polling stations in each district.
Except a couple of districts, DEOs of other districts have submitted their proposals on requirement of fleet for election duties, and the APSRTC will arrange the required fleet, said Executive Director (ED-Operations) K.V.R.K. Prasad. The Corporation will also provide goods transport vehicles for shifting EVMs and VVPAT machines in each district, the ED said.
“In addition to 5,000 fleet and 100 goods transport vehicles, 1,000 more buses will be kept ready for election duties in the State,” Mr. Prasad told The Hindu on Monday.
The APSRTC will operate about 211 special buses and 525 scheduled services, from Hyderabad to various destinations for the convenience of voters to excise their franchise in Andhra Pradesh.
Besides, the Telangana State Road Transport Corporation (TSRTC) is running about 250 regular services to different places in Andhra Pradesh. TSRTC is also planning to run special buses to clear the election rush, it is learnt.
“As polling is scheduled on April 11, (i.e. on Thursday), and second Saturday and Sunday are holidays, passengers are planning to spend four days in their villages. APSRTC is arranging special buses from Hyderabad and Secunderabad on April 10 evening,” the ED said.
Tickets booked
APSRTC is ready to provide the required number of buses to the election authorities and for the passengers, who want to travel from Hyderabad to cast their votes.
“We provided advance reservation facility 10 days ago and almost all the seats in special services were booked. Most of the bookings were made from West Godavari, East Godavari, Krishna, Guntur and other districts,” the ED said.
