Communist Party of India-Marxist (CPI-M) Polit Bureau member Prakash Karat has alleged that the RSS and the BJP have quickened the pace of their ‘communal agenda’ as the Lok Sabha elections are drawing closer.
The RSS-BJP combine was trying to fan communal tensions by pushing forward Ayodhya issue in north India and Sabarimala in South India to retain power at Centre.
The need of the hour was to counter the attempts at communal polarisation, he said. The CPI(M) leader was delivering a talk on ‘Democracy and secularism in danger: Destruction of Constitutional bodies’ organised by the party here on Sunday.
Mr. Karat alleged that the BJP and the RSS were fanning sentiments of people against the apex court verdict on the entry of women into Sabarimala temple. They have plans to polarise the people on communal lines and use Ayodhya-Sabarimala as a poll plank, he alleged.
The Congress vacillates whenever there were communal issues.
The Congress hopes to reap harvest in Kerala by joining the protests against the Supreme Court judgment on the Sabarimala temple. But, it was the BJP that would benefit.
Notwithstanding, the LDF government in Kerala and the CPI(M) would continue its struggle against orthodoxy, obstructionism and communalism.
The struggle would be extended to other States to educate the people and create a conducive atmosphere so that women can enter the temple, he said.
PM silenence questioned
The RSS and the BJP were taking the communal route as the Modi government failed on all fronts.
Not a word was there from Prime Minister Narendra Modi on November 8 when demonetisation completed two years, he said.
Rafale deal
They were challenging the Constitution and institutions.
Rafale deal, undermining of the judiciary, education system etc. prove that the NDA government failed on all fronts, the CPI(M) leader added.
CPI(M) State secretary P. Madhu, city secretary Donepudi Kasinath, Capital region convener Ch. Babu Rao and others were present at the seminar.
